A Gouldian Finch. For those of you who don't know, the Gouldian Finch is very rare and is almost impossible to find in the wild. This little finch has joined the feeding frenzy in our yard and we feel very privileged to have her join us. The Mareeba Wetlands has a breeding programme for these special little birds and were excited when I sent them some photos. As she doesn't have a tag, we're assuming she's a wild one which makes this even more special. The photos are a little blurry, but who cares???

The 2 flowers were made using the Tim Holtz Sizzix Paper Rosette Strip Die. It was so simple and fun to use that I was determined I had to put these flowers "somewhere" on the layout.

Materials used - purple cardstock, Fancy Pants Lilac House pattern papers, Bella Birds & Birdcages felt icons, Basic Grey Alpha Stickers, Rub-ons, Charms, May Arts Celery Faux Suede with Ruffle Trim and Kaiser Bird Wood Flourishes. For the scalloped die-cut pattern paper, I used a template to trace the scallops and then cut them out. A very simple layout, but I didn't want to over-do it when the subject itself is so pretty!

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_wXPrVsiuwk8/TOLw3QNAoVI/AAAAAAAAAJc/o_qbdfldd9A/s1600/Gouldian_4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; With limited scrapping time I like to be able to sit and complete a layout in a few days or a week at the most (I know, I know...some of you are just the bees knees and can complete several layouts in a day!) I'm not taking too well to this mini-album where I completed the front cover, didn't get back to it for a couple of weeks, did the next 2 pages (over about 2 months!) and I still have a kajillion pages to fill!!! OK, it's time to stop complaining! I love this album and am looking forward to filling all the pages during the next year or 5!

This is a Glimmer Glass Album by Tattered Angels and although they're not the cheapest on the block, they ROCK....& ROLL!!!! I'll tell you the reasons why....1) it comes with heaps of pages and they're normal cardstock thickness except for the tabbed dividers so it's not already bulky before you begin....2) the dividers & covers are covered so you can spray glimmermist straight onto them and it looks great....3) it comes with a couple of smaller plastic butterflies the same as the one in the window so you can put them on the tabs (which are butterfly shape) or use them on your pages to embellish....4) it comes bound with proper spiral binder which is easy to open and close so you can take it apart while you're making it and easily put it all back together again.

The cover has been the most fun so far! I used 3 different Glimmermist colours sprayed randomly over the cover. I've always been a little afraid of Glimmermist, but I just went wild with it here. The cover is embellished with a mixture of Rubons, Stamped Butterflies, Ribbon, Basic Grey Buttons, a Tim Holtz Key and Grungeboard Alphas & Wings. The Rubons and Wings are covered in Glossy Accents which is something I now LOVE. The wings of the tabbed butterfly have been finished with some Ranger Stickles. I then used a purple marker to decorate the edges of the cover.

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_wXPrVsiuwk8/TLE_ZjPCt4I/AAAAAAAAAJI/8ACkj-trvFY/s1600/PoppysLizarda.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; She thinks she's so clever, but meanwhile I don't think the lizard was too impressed especially as it spent over a week in our Vet's wildlife room while it was treated with antibiotics! When we brought it home to release it still had a limp, but managed to run very quickly to get away from us.

The paper used on this double page spread is Basic Grey Kioshi. I love the colours of this paper range. On the left page I covered the whole page with paper and used my binding edge punch to punch the edges so I could cover all the way to the edge instead of having to chop it off before the binding rings. I love that punch!

The title is from Fancy Pants Roadshow Alphabets. I have NEVER used sticker alphabets and I was really cranky when I realised how much I've been missing out on. I have no idea why, but I have never even thought to buy or use stickers. I think it was seeing so many people buy them through the shop that made me think of trying them....that's after I pulled out every chipboard, rubon and stamp alphabets that I own. I even printed a title on card from the computer before I thought of stickers!!! What an idiot I am!

I thought the page needed a bit of dimension so the journalling which is on a Paper Loft journal card, has been stuck onto the grosgrain ribbon behind it so that it's "lifted" off the page a little. I'm really into tearing and distressing the edges of card at the moment so I've torn this and then used ink to distress the edges.

The facing (right) page has been covered with 3 different Glimmermist colours. This is one of the internal sheets of white card pages that came with the album. I used heaps of Glimmermist and it hasn't made the page crinkly or soaked through to the other side. I'm very impressed. I used my Tim Holtz Retractablen Craft Scratcher to distress the edges of the photo, some more Kioshi Paper and Kioshi Stickers to finish the page. There's also a Basic Grey Button hiding behind the circle sticker on the bottom left side.

#1 Creepy Crawly!

Once again, it's been longer than ever between blog posts. I feel sorry for anyone who may be checking this blog regularly as they must be bored out of their brains!!! Hopefully that's about to end. I'm getting my creative mojo back and I impressed myself yesterday when I created a whole double layout in the one day.

For those of you who are snake-phobic - like me! - you may want to stop reading now, or maybe just pretend the photos aren't there. I am absolutely petrified of snakes, but this one was such a stunning colour that I had to get his photo. I felt very proud of myself as I bravely stood fairly close (on the other side of a chainlink fence) from this snake and took photo after photo.

OK, so I raided the store for the materials for this....literally....I think I may have had the ric-rac and the fragment charm already, but that's about it. I even took a roll of 1/8" roll of wondertape to stick down the ric-rac...now's as good a time as any to say that it is PERFECT for ric-rac.

The papers used are from Making Memories Toil & Trouble range. I wanted to make something with Halloween paper to show that you don't have to be into Halloween to have fun with it. I don't believe in Halloween in Australia as it's not our tradition, but it's becoming more popular so who am I to complain.

I used a total of 4 sheets of paper for the 2 pages - 2 sheets of Pumpkins, 1 of Spider Web and 1 of Playing Cards. I really like how the cut out playing cards embellish the page! I've also used Core'dinations Black Magic with a yellow core.

On the left hand page the Core'dinations was scrunched, sanded and the edges distressed...how fun is that when you can totally destroy a piece of card, including unintentionally ripping it, and then think it's a work of art??? The Core'dination piece on the right behind the large photo has had the edges ripped and then using the Tim Holtz Retractable Craft Scratcher I scratched around the inside edges. The Craft Scratcher was also used to distress the headshot of the snake that was cut using Nestabilities dies into an octagon. Another piece of Core'dinations was used as a mat for the photo (aren't Nestabilities great how you can just go up a size to create the same shape mat?).

The word "Creepy" is using the Jillibean Soup Corrugated Alphas. I also rubbed metalic rubons (available soon in the store) across the ridges of the alphas to enhance them and make them sparkle a little. the word "Crawly" is using Fancy Pants Road Show Alphas (sorry, I used the last sheet in stock, but other varieties are available!). The torn strips of paper have had the edges distressed with Tim Holtz Distress Inks and then to finish off I gave sprayed Glimmermist Hulla Hoop over both pages. I thought it was a suitably evil colour for a snake!

On the left page, I've added 2 Dream Street Superstition die cuts. I thought the saying "forget the ghosts...beware of me" was very fitting for a snake! "You're BOO-tiful" has been mounted on a Fragment Charm which has been coloured with alcohol inks and the diecut has been covered in Glossy Accents. The final touch was to use a remaining piece of Black Magic Core'dinations, wrong-side up, which has been cut out using Nestabilities and a couple of brads.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; I'm amazed at how much I did use on this layout. It looks so simple until you write it all down. I hope you like it and I hope the subject didn't scare you too much....

I see that in my previous blog (in March) that I promised some blog candy. Serves me right for nagging at my friend Amy when she got a bit behind with blogging. Now the shoe's on the other foot and she's loving it!!!

I do have a small excuse though....I have temporarily gone insane and started an online shop! It's something I've been wanting to do for ages and now it's done. I tell you though, I think it would have been a whole lot less painful if I had paid someone to set the website up for me and I just come along at the end and manage it from there, but I stubbornly wanted to "do it myself" so that if I had problems or if I wanted to change the look or design then I could do it. It's been a great learning curve and I can now re-install the whole thing in a matter of a couple of hours from scratch. Thanks to the free software from Zen-Cart and lots of googling for answers, most of which have already been asked on the Zen-Cart forum.

Anyway, pop on over and have a look. It's "getting there" I guess is the best word for it. There are so many great products out there and it's amazing how when you're buying to start-up, money just doesn't go far at all. Buying from Australian Wholesalers also makes prices higher so although my first few batches of products have come from Australian Wholesalers, I am searching for US Wholesalers and have set-up accounts with many of the paper manufacturers to try and reduce costs. Importing's not that hard and it's amazing how a parcel from Illinois which left on Friday last week arrived the same day as a parcel that left Brisbane on Thursday last week. Both parcels arrived on Tuesday this week - quick isn't the word. The US parcel was great because it contained heaps of Tim Holtz products. I just love his stuff and while I'm writing this I'm trying to work out what I want to make.

I haven't made anything for ages and I want to make something using his techniques. I've been making Recipe Cards and I'm thinking about doing some more of them. They're easier than scrapbook pages because they're smaller, you don't have to match colours to photos and you can do insteresting techniques really quickly. A bit like Tim's tags I guess, except I don't do quite so many techniques on one page.

Anyway, sorry to be so slack and I'm now going off to "explore" my cupboard and see what I can make.

I know it's not Christmas, but here's a picture of my Christmas Elf, usually known as Sprite.

Watch this space and spread the word as I'm going to run some more Blog Candy soon. I'll go and have a raid on the "shop" and see what I can come up with. Don't forget to pop on over to Wild About Scrap and check out some of the specials we have instore. Check the prices as I'm trying to get products at the cheapest price so that I can pass on the savings to you.

Guess Who

I haven't done a double layout for a long time and I'm going to have to do more because they're really fun to do. I'd just finished cleaning the camera and was playing with the AV (aperature) mode and got some great morning faces. By the way, it's amazing how early the sun comes up in Brisbane compared to where we are near Mareeba. The sun was getting up somewhere between 5.30 and 6 at home and down there it was broad daylight at 5.

I have had an extremely busy week, inbetween work, running our nursery and the usual household stuff, making this Twiddleybitz Advent House. As I have found out the hard way, it's not a project for the faint hearted! I hope you like it.

<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; This wasn't too hard, but there was a fair bit of gluing involved and heaps of pieces to slot together only to discover I'd painted the wrong side of the roof! Oh well, practice makes perfect! The hardest part was that each of the 24 boxes had to be cut out of card using the Twiddleybitz box template. It wasn't so hard, but it definitely took quite a few hours tracing each of those boxes, cutting them out, scoring the folds and assembling them. Let's say I watched the new Harry Potter movie twice as well as a few Doctor Who episodes while doing it!

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_wXPrVsiuwk8/SxI__30uKNI/AAAAAAAAAFU/N6iUAMF5eQg/s1600/Advent+House4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="cssfloat: left; Most have been covered with Kaiser "Belle" paper. I decided to use a mixture of numbering styles so I've used Kaiser Rub-ons, Twiddley Bitz and Heidi Swapp Chipboard as well as stamps. Some of the chipboards have been painted with Making Memories paints while others were painted with Ranger Crackle Paints.

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_wXPrVsiuwk8/SxI_zTeOFmI/AAAAAAAAAFE/WspfjKsZQ4s/s1600/Advent+House2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="cssfloat: right; A couple of the boxes, e.g. "12" have been painted with Ranger Rock Candy Crackle - it gives a gorgeous effect!

The roof top has been painted with Picket Fence crackle and then I've glued "snow" AKA Flowersoft Polar White along the edges and in patches over the roof. I know we don't have snow in Australia for Christmas and never where I live, but I couldn't resist for this house. The front of the roof has been painted over with Making Memories Red Glitter Glaze and the filigree has been painted with Ranger Pewter Crackle Paint. I really love the crackle paint. It's so easy to use and cracks beautifully!

The santa and sleigh are also from Twiddleybitz and have been painted with Making Memories paint and the Santa himself has been painted with Ranger Fired Brick Crackle Paint. This has been mounted with doublesided foam tape to lift it from the edge a bit. The Christmas Tree has been heat embossed with Christmas Tree embossing glitter and the Angel has been heat embossed with gold embossing powder. For the first time I used Ranger Embossing Stamp Pad to adhere the embossing powders to the images and I'm really impressed with how good it is. It stays really moist and sticky for ages after you've put it on so you don't have to rush to get the embossing powder on.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; I had EVERYTHING out and all over my table - paints, rubons, chipboard, paper, embellishments, ribbon, etc. - and the flowersoft went all over the place. It absolutely refused to land on my mat and although I have a large Stampin' Up Embossing Tray, the house was too large for it. Overall it was fantastic to make, but I'm glad it's now done. I'm looking forward to doing something easier next week!

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; This is Sprite (again!) playing dress-ups as a fairy. Sprite LOVES to play dress-ups, although she wasn't too keen on the wings flapping about, which is why she's the star of my scrapbooking pages.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; Anyway, inspired by my friend Amy from Stampin' Stuff who is always decorating books, I thought I'd try and cover it. This is how it looks:

I've been dying to try Tim Holtz's ink splatter technique. Basically it's just like being back in Kindy again! It's so easy and fun and it doesn't really matter if you stuff it up. It's not supposed to look perfect. So to do this you need a couple of colours of alcohol ink, a can of Pressurised Air (hence one of the visits to Officeworks) and glossy cardstock (MUST be glossy or the ink'll just soak in). Drop a couple of drops of one ink colour randomly on the card. Quickly, before it dries, give each ink dot a quick blast from your pressurised air can. The ink should spread. Repeat with the other colours until the majority of the card has been filled. Try for some overlaps of colours to see the different effects. This was really very quick to do and I've got a unique background card. This is the back of the book:

To finish off the book I stamped a title using Stampin' Up alphabet stamps. I also found a sentiment stamp that fitted the "ideas" theme of the notebook and backed it with Stampin' Up creamy caramel card. The finishing touch was a strip of grosgrain ribbon to decorate across the front and back and I attached another length of the same ribbon to the inside back cover of the book to help me keep my place.

This is the first ever book I've covered, however now I know how much fun it is I'm looking around for other things to do too!

Anyway, to the layout. For this I used Core'dinations cardstock for the base and I have distressed the edges to expose the core and sanded roughly around the outside inch to 2 inches. Just to grunge it all up.

The next layer is my newest favourite thing which is the Ranger Tim Holtz alcohol inks. This has 3 colours of alcohol ink plus silver mixative which have been squeezed onto a Ranger Alcohol Ink Applicator. Using glossy cardstock (must be glossy or it won't work!), tap the applicator over the sheet until it is totally covered. You can go over areas several times to deepen the colours. Then apply a good squirt of Ranger Alcohol Blending Solution to the ink applicator and go over the sheet again until you are happy with the colours. The blending solution softens the colours and makes them blend into each other. The finished effect is amazing. You can do this with clear fragments or buttons as well. Trust me this is gorgeous, but being so shiny with the silver through it's extremely difficult to photograph!

The flowers were originally white and I mixed Ranger Dried Marigold distress ink with water in a mini mister and then added Ranger Interference Red Perfect Pearls. Give it all a good shake and spray on the flowers. They have a slight shimmer to them, but I could probably have added more pearls to make them even shinier.

The title "Hangin' out" is using Grungeboard alphabets - these are so amazingly tough and flexible. I painted them with Ranger Spiced Marmalade Distress Crackle paint (another of my favourites - hmm, maybe I should just list my favourite things which seems to be almost everything!). I then rubbed Ranger Dusty Concord Distress Ink into the cracks and then wiped off with a damp sponge so that the orange stayed orange and the cracks are now a deep purple like the cardstock.

But wait! That's not all!!! The "i" in Hangin' is dotted with a Stampin' Up flower brad and to finish off the flowers I added Kaiser Rhinestones to the small ones and Stampin' Up buttons to the big ones. The final touch is the 3 fragments which have been covered in Stampin' Up pattern paper. I'm not 100% happy with the fragments, which makes a change for me, but the silver cord took forever to get to stay where I wanted it and now I haven't the heart to change them.

If you want more details on using any of the Ranger products check out Tim Holtz' website. Link is on this page. The products are available at Stampin' Stuff. Every time I try something new from his range it instantly becomes my new favourite thing to do. This layout "say....cheese!" covers a couple of them. I think my friends are now sick of me raving about Tim Holtz so I'll have to rave online instead.

This layout features our last litter of boxer pups when they were about 6 weeks old. The photo was taken October 2008, but I only scrapped this recently. Aren't they adorable?

The cardstock is textured pale green and I laid out the "cheese" using Heidi Swapp "Newsprint" mask. Unfortunately I ran out of room to have the full title, but made do (don't we always "make do" in scrapping?) Using Tim Holtz (Ranger) Distress Inks (Tea, Dye, Peeled Paint & Scattered Straw) with a Ranger Ink Blending Tool I rubbed in ink around the edges of the card. I admit I went a little crazy here because it was so much fun. If you've never tried this before I recommend watching the tutorials on Tim Holtz's site as it is quick and easy to do and as I said....soooo much fun! The papers used are from Kaiser's "Country Grove" range. I love Kaiser, but admit to being disappointed we only get releases once a quarter now! I cut out a flower from the paper for the top right corner and anchored it with a Stampin' Up! silver flower brad. The other flowers are from Green Tara and I've embellished the centres with Kaiser Rhinestones. To finish the title I used Stampin' Up alphabet stamps with "Really Rust" ink.

As a finishing touch I used one of my other new favourites which is the Tim Holtz idea-ology Fragments. These fragments are FANTASTIC. You can cover them with paper, like I've done here, stamp on them, use alcohol inks on them and even emboss on them! They're really versatile and you can make them look different on every page so it doesn't matter how many times you use them.

If you're looking for the Tim Holtz products you can get them at http://www.stampinstuff.com.au/ a great new online store.

Welcome to my first ever blog! As an introduction I'll tell you a bit about myself. As you can see from my profile I share my life with a variety of animals who are the inspiration for a lot of my work. However, I refuse to restrict myself to boring ol' doggie brads and doggie papers. I try to use whatever I think is pretty or suitable.

I have been scrapping for approximatly 2 1/2 years and in that time I've discovered it's just another way of accumulating heaps of stuff and spending heaps of money keeping up with all the amazing new papers, inks, tools, etc. It's extremely addictive and I LOVE IT!

This is a box to hold Making Memories Paints. The box has been painted with Kaiser paints - Sea Breeze with splashes of White around the edges. The title are Bella chipboard alphas which have been painted with different colours and mediums including crackle paint, pearl glaze and glitter paint. The box was finished by decorating the handle with raffia and tying raffia around the whole box. The final touch is a white Green Tara flower with a blue button. I agonised for about a week over the decoration of this box as it didn't seem to be doing what I had wanted, but a few mistakes and coverups later and much changing of the original plan I am very happy with it. The only problem.....it holds 15 paints and the box is now full!
